Pastor Morgan served as a full-time pastor for over 44 years. After 34 years in Michigan he served his last 10 years in Florida and retired from active ministry in 2009. He has been active in St. Matthias ELCA in Clearwater, FL and in Prince of Peace ELCA, here in Portage.
Pastor Morgan is a native of Portland, Michigan. He has two grown children and three grand children. His wife, Tamara Preston, is the Office Administrator at Prince of Peace. They live in Portage, not far from the church.
Pastor Morgan graduated from Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan with a B.A. in Speech/Communications. He earned his M.Div. from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. Jim went back to school and earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from Drew University School of Theology in Madison, New Jersey. Pastor Morgan has spent his entire adult life as a pastor. He began serving a local church while he was still in college and has given himself to the ministry of the church ever since. He was raised a Methodist but has become a “Lutheran by choice.” He is proud to be serving as a part-time interim pastor for the congregation of Prince of Peace ELCA.
