Extended Ministries Endowment

Time Anticipated:  Attend quarterly meetings, which depends on fund status and ability to provide grants, three to five hours per quarter.  Members serve a three year term.

The Extended Ministries Endowment Fund is pleased to announce that $4,280 is available for disbursement to potential extended ministries in 2017. This amount is a portion of the total 2016 interest income earned through investment of the Endowment Fund.

The purpose of the Extended Ministries Endowment Fund is to provide for ministries beyond the operational budget of this congregation. The Endowment Committee serves as the custodian of the Fund. The committee encourages and welcomes gifts of any size, bequests, memorials, estates, and other assets to the fund. The principal of the Endowment Fund is retained and invested. Only the interest income generated from that investment is available for distribution to enable the further growth of the church and its extended ministries.

The committee welcomes written requests with the following information:

1)    Name of requestor

2)    Name of the extended ministry

3)    Brief description and potential impact of the extended ministry

4)    Amount of monies requested

The Endowment Committee will review the requests and determine if monies will be distributed.

Voting members of the Extended Ministries Endowment Committee are Tim Gatz (chair), Mitch Maurer (Treasurer), Mary Clyne (Secretary), Pat Boulis and Dennis Stalker.

If you are interested in learning more about requesting monies for a future extended ministry beyond the operational budget of the congregation, please speak with one of the committee members.

As this fund continues to grow, even more opportunities will be available to support ministries, charitable activities and other POP needs that are not covered by the operational budget of our church.  Please prayerfully consider making a contribution to the Extended Ministries Endowment Fund

Thank you!

About the Extended Ministries Endowment Committee (excerpted from the Prince of Peace Constitution):

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Portage, Michigan has a living endowment of faithful members with rich gifts and varied talents. “As each has received a gift, employ it for another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace whoever renders it by the strength which God supplies, in order that in everything God may be glorified.” 1 Peter 1:10-11.

a. The Extended Ministries Endowment Fund (hereafter referred to as “the Fund”), shall have the principal retained and only the income spent to enable the further growth of our church, its ministries and stewardship opportunities.

b. The purpose of the Fund is to provide for ministries beyond the operational budget of this congregation. No portion of the income generated by the Fund shall be used for the annual operating budget of the congregation.

c. The Fund shall receive bequests, estates, insurance, gifts, memorials and other assets.

d. The Fund shall consist of two categories, a General Endowment Fund and a Designated Endowment Fund. The General Endowment Fund shall receive donations, gifts, and contributions of any size, and the principal of the fund shall be preserved and only the income shall be used, as determined by the Committee, in accordance with this Continuing Resolution.

e. The Designated Endowment Fund shall receive donations, gifts and contributions for which the donor has directed that the principal shall be preserved and only the income shall be used according to the donor’s specified (designated) purposes and restrictions. However, a Designated Endowment Fund may only be established with a gift of $25,000 or more and after acceptance by the Committee and approval by the Congregation Council. Once a Designated Fund has been established, future gifts of any amount may be contributed to the previously established Designated Fund.

f. The donor has the right to direct their gift to either the General Endowment Fund or a Designated Fund, or a previously established Designated Fund. Once a gift has been accepted, the donor’s wishes will be honored.

g. While Prince of Peace Lutheran Church has every intention of using the Fund as set forth in these resolutions, it does recognize that with the passage of time and changing circumstances, there may be a time when it is not feasible to utilize the Fund as was intended. Should that situation develop, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church or its successors in interest shall then be free to make such use of the income and principal of the Fund as is consistent with the charitable and religious purpose of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, as allowed by legal restrictions of the Fund, as is in accordance with provisions of the laws of the State of Michigan, as preserves, to the extent feasible, the principal of those gifts to be perpetual, thereby carrying out the donors wishes.
